My name is Ivy Hicks and for as long as I've know, my life has never been anything but messy and unforgiving. For this reason I put walls up as far as they could go but then I met a funny, caring boy that I thought had a heart just as beautiful as he was to me. I could feel those walls I had spent years carefully crafting falling down to the ground. I felt like I was on cloud nine; like everything was finally going my way. But life loves to just say 'Fuck you' and pull that rug right from underneath you. I spent so many tears on that boy and my heart yearned for him even years after he walked away. Now, after graduating with my bachelors degree and finding the man of my dreams, I find myself back in my hometown for the summer to have my wedding. Everything seems like life is finally throwing me a bone until I find out I'm having to work side by side with the same boy that broke my heart all those years ago. My name is Carson Avery. I never knew my mom and was raised up by my dad and while it was nice because it was only us and we were able to bond very easily, it was also hell because I never learned how to love properly. I didn't have a nurturing figure in my life, only someone who taught me to deal with my emotions by throwing myself into work and pushing down my feelings until it doesn't hurt as much. So when the girl that I had been crushing on for years finally became my girlfriend, I vowed that I wouldn't hurt her like I had done to others. But like my father used to tell me, I never really did follow by the rules, even ones I set for myself. Five years later, I had taken over the Ranch, threw myself into my work and tried to forget all about the girl of my dreams that I let walk away. That is until she decides to walk back into our hometown with a ring on her finger and match in her hand that lit that fire we had back into my heart. However this time, I won't lose that flame again, no matter what it takes. Here I come my little firecracker.

Being in love with your best friend isn't the ideal life situation but for Zora, it's her only life situation. Secretly harboring her feelings for her best friend, Sierra, Zora pours her emotions into her journal in the form of poetry. After years of keeping her attraction for her friend at bay and trying to deny her feelings by forcing herself to love a boy who unconditionally loves her, Zora's favorite emotional outlet becomes the cause of her life falling apart as the truth finally comes out. ***** It was happening again. It was dark, sunset, I waited for her to be done with volleyball practice 'because she was my ride'. Somehow we wandered from the gym to the football field and we were sitting at the very top of the bleachers staring at each other. Her dark hair mirrored the direction of the wind, the setting sun being replaced by the brightness of her smile. We were sitting so close I could feel her warmth. It was an unusual situation. Friends don't do this. We held eye contact for a long time before I couldn't take it anymore and just closed my eyes. It wasn't real, she was just my friend. Then, I felt her tuck a strand of my curly hair behind my ear. That with the chill of the night sent shivers down my spine and a swarm of butterflies attacked my stomach. I reopened my eyes. If she didn't want me, why did she look at me that way? I held her hand and I held it for so long because I didn't know if we'd have another moment like this. We talk and laugh and she tells me I'm pretty and I ask her if she'd just noticed that and we laugh again. I realize the feelings I felt in that moment were not just the intense feelings of attraction that I felt every time I was with her. Warmth flooded to my face and if it wasn't for my dark complexion, my blush would be noticeable. I look into her dark-colored eyes and I come to the conclusion that I'm royally fucked and I'm probably also in love.
