Alex has never lived a normal life. For as long as he can remember, it's been just him, his older brother Dare, and Dare's best friend Viktor-moving from town to town, never staying long enough to put down roots. Motel rooms and back roads are the closest thing he has to home. When Dare takes a long-term construction job, Alex finally gets the chance to spend a whole year in one place. For the first time, he goes to school, makes friends, and begins to wonder what he's been missing. But the stability he's always wanted comes with a price: the risk of being discovered, judged, or even torn away from the only family he's ever had. As Alex struggles to balance the life he wants with the life he has, tragedy forces him to face questions he's not ready to answer-and Dare and Viktor to confront the choices that have kept them running for so long. On Our Own is a coming-of-age story about family, friendship, and the painful truth that sometimes love isn't enough to make things okay.

As the two boys grow closer together, and with the threat of their relationship ending along with their respective vacations, Riley discovers once more that the true treasures of life are the memories you make along the way, and the time you spend with those you make them with.
