Before the age of Nidhogg's Chosen, before the worlds and empires that would one day shape the Omniverse, there was another age. An age of gods, ancient civilizations, impossible wars, and powers long since forgotten. The Great Crusades: Rising Dawn is a collection of historical accounts spanning the distant ages preceding the events of Nidhogg's Chosen. Rather than following a single continuous narrative, this anthology explores the countless wars, civilizations, heroes, villains, catastrophes, discoveries, and forgotten moments that shaped the Omniverse. At its beginning lies the Triumvirate-the ancient alliance of the Forerunners, the Necrontyr, and the Old Ones. Their struggle against the Darkness would become one of the greatest conflicts in existence, ending in the destruction of civilizations and forever changing the course of history. But the Triumvirate is only the beginning. Across self-contained chapters and short stories, these archives explore the rise and fall of ancient empires, the origins of peoples and powers, legendary battles, forgotten heroes, the Great Crusades, the long war against the Darkness, and events whose consequences would echo across countless realities and generations. Canonically, these stories are presented as fragments of history gathered from across the Omniverse by Trazyn the Infinite and his daughter Traexi- Nectrontyr archivists who have spent ages collecting what others allowed to be forgotten. Some records are complete. Some are contradictory. Some may be the only surviving evidence that certain civilizations ever existed. Together, they form the Omniversal history that leads to Nidhogg's Chosen. This is where the story begins.

After the fall of the Imperial fortress world, a young Cadian and his comrades have fought in the never-ending, brutal war that consumes the galaxy. Battle after battle, he fought to destroy the enemies of the Emperor and humanity. A mission against the forces of Chaos goes wrong, and he finds himself engulfed in a Warp portal, transporting him to a frozen, dead world where he is unable to contact the Imperium of Man. However, he is not alone, for men of iron walk the planet, and as he comes to learn more about the robotic population, his faith will be tested and he'll be forced to make heretical choices to survive.
