Rowan Wood is a shy freshman high schooler with many untold truths. With his father dead and his mother dying from terminal cancer, he only finds solace in his favorite game: dungeons and dragons. He and his three friends: Julian "Jule" Smith, a quick witted guitarist with a secret admiration for Rowan; Rosa Ellison, a rambunctious and chaotic tomboy with a passion for tennis; and Harper Windlow, a mysterious and striking girl who plays the piano team up for a D&D session to relieve Rowan's stress. It ends catastrophically when Rowan accidentally sends the group straight to a forest in northern Faerûn, forcing them to adapt to their new environment and fit into Faerûnian society.
