"Be like what? This whole time we've only been 'playing pretend', right? Why do you care so much?" I scoff back without thinking, staring straight ahead and shutting my eyes tight.
A silence fills the car and I immediately regret saying that and turning his words back on him. I shouldn't have said that, what am I even doing? I go to speak again but nothing comes out. The truth is, I haven't been playing pretend, I stopped playing our game while ago... I just don't know how to admit it and what if he doesn't feel the same way?
