Life, for everyone, is a wheel that turns again and again. When I look back on my childhood in 1950s Korea, I remember empty stomachs and thin torn blankets, yet I also see the mothers who smiled and cooked rice for their children. It was an age of poverty, but also an age of warmth, when people rose together each day simply to keep living. With those memories, I later became a traveller through "the time of the world". From one poor country to another, I followed my husband's work and came to know the mothers of those distant lands. In Egypt, Albania, Bosnia, Uganda-I saw women who, like the mothers of my Korea long ago, endured silently for the sake of their children. This book is not simply the story of one woman's journey. It is a record of the world as seen through a mother's eyes-a letter across time, tracing the shared cycle of suffering, endurance, and hope.
