Eight-year-old Josie Jones and her family are Russians that are very opinionated. Or rather, they have few opinions but feel very strongly about them. They are atheists, have few friends, and never talk to strangers. Their country is on the very tip of going to war with Hungary. A tragic accident occurs that leaves little Josie an orphan. Oddly enough, though, their family prepared her for every situation, so Josie is ready. Or...is she? She travels to Estonia but ends up in Hungary. She believes there is no God but questions herself. And she's adopted by the person whom she is supposed to hate--the head general of Hungary's army, who gives her a different perspective on life. This new perspective changes everything for Josie, but the one who gave it to her doesn't even completely understand it himself. Josie has to convince the general not to start the war with Russia, or everything she loved will be destroyed.
