The University of Lavenhall was no ordinary ground of study. There, under the towering shelves of medieval tomes and romantic poetry, students either bloomed or withered under the infamous brilliance of Professor Alexander Thorne. Known equally for his devastating beauty and merciless discipline, his very name struck both awe and dread: the Demon King of Literature.

Into this storm stepped Cedar Harvey, a girl of twenty-six with soft curls and eyes too tender for a world that had already bruised her. She did not seek fame or notice.
