Ser Aelor Goldfyre, the "Golden Dragon," is a man forged by the madness he swore to protect. Once the Lord Commander of Aerys II's Kingsguard, Aelor fled the ashes of the Red Keep, trading his white cloak for the black and gold of the Order of the Dragon, a knightly brotherhood sworn to protect the Starks.

With his striking violet eyes and gold-streaked hair, Aelor's rumored Targaryen blood is a secret that both curses and empowers him. Now, based at the fortified Dragon's Den near Winterfell, he commands a loyal force dedicated to one impossible task: holding the shattered North together while protecting Sansa Stark, the last lamb in the South.

But as Bolton's treachery runs rampant and the Riverlands bleed, Aelor finds that the North's cold embrace offers little refuge from the sins of his past. Wielding his ancestral longsword, Goldflame, he must now face the reality that a dragon's fire, even a golden one, is only good for burning the world down.
