"Sonic-! No!" Panic overtook Shadow as Sonic went limp. The ebony hedgehog dashed forward to catch him, yanking the dart out of his arm. "You hurt him!" Shadow bared his fangs at Director Rockwell.
"Seize the two specimens." That was an order. Soldiers surrounded the two hedgehogs and took aim.
Shadow clung to Sonic as sparks ignited across his fur and quills. "I won't let you take him from me! Stop taking everything from me!"

Shadow must learn to put his past behind him if he wants to find happiness with Sonic. But the past repeats itself.

SONIC 3 SPOILERS "What's going on?" Maria asked. "I don't know," Shadow replied, getting off the bed and walking to the door. After hesitating, Shadow opened the door and followed the sounds down the hallway to the main entrance. There were bolts of blue lighting dancing across the room, and guards went down left and right by something too fast for anyone to see. The guards fired into the room, panicked, but the blue blur of lighting was relentless and soon no one was left standing. Shadow stood at the edge of the room, eyes and mouth agape as the blue blur finally stood still, standing over the unconscious guards. It was a hedgehog! It looked like- "Shadow," Maria breathed out, appearing beside Shadow. "He looks just like you."
