"No! Thalia!" She cried, Thalia didn't turn, Annabeth felt someone pick her up and start running, "No! We can't leave her!" Annabeth cried, trying to get out of the person's grip.

"Annabeth, we can't do anything, she's gone now," Luke whispered softly, into Annabeth's ear. Annabeth felt the tears leak down her face as she stopped struggling, Thalia was gone, gone because she was protecting them.

Annabeth made a promise then, if she were to ever love someone again, she would protect them at all costs, no matter what.
