Ian was born with his eyes shut, and could not get them open. This was for the best, as open eyes brought a big surprise, but nobody knew that until it was too late. The surgery was performed, Ian could see, but it only takes 60 seconds for the red to cloud over, and his eyes to point in opposite directions, and for his Phsychotic Derp alternate personality to take over.
