Ruen is a city that doesn't breathe; it leaks. From Bottle Gate to the Chain Arches, from night markets to flooded culverts, the brothers learn how to live where lives are accounted like coin.

Years later they're seasoned agents with light scars and steady hands: Asa smokes kaltar and writes in noise; Iren counts beats and writes in silence. They escort pressmen through riots, ferry fugitives under whistling chains, and take contracts that read like weather-deaths that must look like debt, weakness, or fate.

But the city keeps a ledger of its own: blue doors that should've opened, petitions denied, prints of the dead, and a man with a scarf who might be savior or slaver.
