He's a ghost in the city, a man of violence and secrets.
She's the only one who ever caught his eye.
Now he's watching... waiting... and when he finally speaks, it's not a threat.
It's a promise:

A muscle in his jaw contracted. For a moment, I thought he'd stay silent. Then, slowly, he exhaled.

"My name," he whispered, as if it were a secret, "is Lucian."

''Lucian Kavanagh''

The name dropped into the car like a sheathed knife. Dark. Smooth. Final.

"Lucian," I said, the sound of it, the syllables heavier than they should be.

His eyes flickered, a shadow of a smile playing on his lips and opened like he wanted to say something but he didn't.
