Alight

In a world of avians where everyone has wings, Rend has lived his whole life in a small village far from most other civilizations. The Council in his village refrains anyone from taking interest in the outside world, claiming all other cultures to be backward and immoral. Instead, they persuade their civilians to live in contentment and peace with one another, and uphold their cherished traditions in separation.

But Rend knows something most everyone else doesn't. He's met Outsiders before, and not all of them are as wicked as the Council claims them to be. Perhaps the Council is lying, or perhaps they're just ignorant. Whatever the option, Rend is faced with a choice when the Outsiders return for him: to stay in safety in his village, or to get a taste of what the rest of the world has to offer.

Rend chooses to finally spread his wings and take off. But the world he discovers is confusing, full of loud voices and conflicting ideas, not all of which seem to be completely good or bad. Rend is left wondering which path is the right one to take, and whether he should have even left at all.

This is a story about finding yourself and establishing your beliefs when you don't know where to go, and finding a place to alight (or, land to rest.)
