Long before the War of the Ring, when dragons still slept and dwarves dreamed of gold, there walked in the North a ranger known only as Strider. Few knew her name, and fewer still her blood. Alysanne, daughter of Arathorn and Gilraen, has lived years in the wilds, guarding the borders of the North while hiding from the shadow of her own destiny. As the firstborn of Isildur's line, she is the true heir to the thrones of Gondor and Arnor - yet she believes herself unworthy of the crown that cost her ancestors their souls. When Gandalf the Grey finds her among the lonely hills, he brings with him a summons she cannot ignore: a company of thirteen dwarves, a hobbit, and a quest to reclaim a stolen homeland. Reluctantly, Alysanne joins them, her path entwined with Thorin Oakenshield's - another heir burdened by pride and loss. Through mountain storms, goblin tunnels, and dragon fire, Alysanne will be tested not only by sword and shadow, but by the very legacy she fears to claim. As friendship blooms and loyalties are forged in peril, she must decide whether she will remain a wanderer in exile... or rise as the queen she was born to be.

Caladhiel had been born in the Northern Mountains of Middle Earth. She'd always been hot headed, passionate and brave. Her father was the leader of their clan and they were the elves that protected the North. On a faithful battle her home was destroyed by the Orcs and she was the only surviver of her clan. She was found by Galadriel, almost dying and she took her under her care and protection. Caladhiel was moved to Rivendell and was put under Elrond's care, he taught her how to behave in court, how to address herself to nobles and most important of all how to be a proper lady suitable for marriage. Causing far too much trouble for Elrond in Rivendell the young elven princess of the North is moved to Mirkwood in order to be taught how to behave and leave her warrior ways behind. Caladhiel hates being told what to do but as soon as her eyes catch the Elven King's her world is about to be turned upside down.
