The Garden. A perfect society, a replica of Eden. The people there are happy, and have no fear of sickness or even death. Everybody listens to the rules unconditionally. No one rejects them.
This is the world Moira lives in. At the age of eighteen, she is beautiful, and care free. She is close to finishing her studies, and when she does, she will be able to apply for a pairing. The Garden picks everyone's soul mate, so there are no imperfect marriages.
On her pairing day, Moira couldn't be more excited. But when there is talk of a man dying of sickness, all celebrations are put on hold and everyone is sent into their homes. This never happens.
If that's not all, The Garden still sends her who her pairing is, and Moira couldn't be more surprised or angry.
