Prologue

Ruby
They say the devil comes for you when you least expect it.
I didn't believe that. I thought the devil lived in fairy tales, in whispered warnings told to little girls to keep them from wandering too far from home.
But the devil was real. He wore a tailored suit, drove black cars that prowled like panthers, and smiled as though he already owned the world.
And one night, in the middle of a storm, he came for me.
Not because I'd sinned. Not because I'd tempted fate.
But because my father sold me to him.

Demon
They call me Demon because monsters need names.
I built an empire from ashes, carved power out of the bones of men who underestimated me. I don't gamble. I don't beg. I don't lose.
And when Voss put his daughter on the table as collateral, I didn't blink.
I don't need money. I don't need luck.
I take what I want.
And that night, I wanted Ruby Voss.

Ruby
I swore I'd hate him forever.
I swore I'd never bend, never fall, never give him the satisfaction.
But hatred is dangerous. It burns hot, blinding, until you can't tell the difference between anger and desire.
And that's how the devil wins.

Demon
Ruby thinks she's fire. But fire only survives as long as it has fuel.
I will strip her, test her, burn her down to her last ember.
And when there is nothing left-
She will still be mine.

In the beginning, there was nothing. Just a vast void of nothing. All consuming darkness. And then there was cold. Ice. The ice spread from the core of the earth to everything until the world was formed. And then there was heat. For a while there was war between heat and ice. They fought for dominion over the world. Ice was the first and believed it was to be in charge. Heat supported more life and believed it should be allowed to rule. Eventually, when both almost destroyed the world Ice had created, they decided to merge and rule together, to release both their powers over the world and create life. They did that and then they went to sleep, dormant in the village of Azarath, the village where the first witches were born. The village where it all began. ******************** "What am I? I'm not human as we all thought, that's for sure. I'm not a witch, I can't cast a spell to save my life! I'm not a vampire as the absence of the speed and fangs indicate. I'm not a werewolf as my remaining on two legs every full moon proves so what am I?" Kat shouted to the winds as they roared around her in the clearing she stood in. "Aren't you gonna answer me?!" she asked again, tears rolling out of her eyes as she began to rise above the ground, the power inside her threatening to overwhelm her. "You are nothing and you are everything" the reply finally came, silent but still able to be heard above the fierce winds. And then all of a sudden there was silence. There was nothing. ******************* This is book 1 of The Destined Five series. The other books can be found on my profile.

PROLOGUE. Drip, drip, drip, drip, drip. Fifty, fifty one, fifty two, drip. drip. I winced in pain. I lost count of the water drops dripping from the ceiling. What's the time? What's the day? How long have I been here ? I can't remember because I have lost count of the time and days. All I know is that it's been too long. To long that I haven't seen my family or friends. To long that I haven't seen the outdoors. It's been a long time but I can't remember exactly how long I have been in this hell. I can't remember how long I have been in this cold and filthy room with no window. Nothing apart from these damp walls and a dirty mattress on the floor. There is a toilet in the corner. There is no mirror. I can't even remember what I look like anymore. All I have is a worn tattered dirty dress on my body. I have no shoes. "Oh Moon goddess please help me. Please help me or let me die" I cried helplessly. "Anya child speak to me" My wolf Alexandra whimpered. "Alex I can't take much more. I can't take it any longer. He won't even let me die." I sobbed. "I know child but you must stay strong. You are strong Anya and we will make it through this" Alex whispered. "No we won't. He will never let me leave. Never" I cried feeling sorry for myself. Bang. Oh no I thought his back. I heard his foot steps coming down stairs. I tried to move but the pain in my back hadn't healed from the earlier lashing he gave me. His footsteps were getting closer and closer until they stopped outside the door. The bolts were being opened one by one. "Anya I'm sorry. I'm sorry child" my wolf whispered quietly before disappearing into the darkness. The door opened and there he stood in the shadows. It was dark but I could make out his silhouette. I started to tremble in fear knowing what was coming. Here in the shadows stood my mate.

I have decided to put it back up because of a large request from readers. However, I was a kid when I wrote this so take it with a grain of salt. *** Like a deer in head lights, I freeze and watch as the car comes towards me expecting to get hit. But to my surprise, the car swerves to the side slightly next to me and comes to a stop. I take a deep breath I didn't know I was holding at the driver's side door swings open and a very pissed off Axel steps out. "Thank god," I mumble and place my hands on my knees to catch my breath. "Blaze?" He says and I hate it. I hate how he says my name as if it's his. Like he knows it's the only thing I want to hear, him calling out to me, looking at me, focused to me. It's the first time in my life I wanted someone's attention so badly I didn't care how I got it. And that was too dangerous for me to hold onto. "Are you insane or some shit? I could have killed you!" He says and starts to walk towards me. I take a big breath and step back away from him, "s-stop! Axel," I stutter still panting. It's then he notices the blood on my hands and shirt. "Is that blood?" He asks staring at my shirt and I take another step back. "Stop, stay b-back," I try to say confidently but I can't even breath right. Realizing he won't listen I start to turn around planning to make a break for it. "Don't run from me Blaze it won't go well," he growls reading my thoughts causing me to freeze in my spot. "Do not ever think you can get away from me."

The chandelier above cast golden light across the marble floor, but the silence in the room was anything but warm. Ruby stood near the edge of the ballroom, her back to him, her hands clenched so tightly at her sides that her knuckles blanched. The satin of her gown shimmered, but her presence outshone even that. "Say something," Xavier said. "I don't owe you words," she shot back, still facing the window, watching the city she had once fought so hard to rise in now swallow her whole. He exhaled slowly. "You can hate me, Ruby. But you walked into this marriage knowing what it was." She finally turned, and for a split second, he saw the girl underneath the courtroom victories and cold indifference. The girl who had buried a mother and renamed herself to survive. "I walked in to protect the only piece of my mother I had left," she said. "And you-you walked in to make your father shut up." "That's not fair." "No. But neither is love born in contracts." Their eyes locked, fire against ice. Neither blinked. Neither breathed. And yet, in that moment-amid family legacies, billion-dollar deals, and a city that never sleeps-two broken souls stood in a stillness that felt like destiny. He stepped closer. She didn't move. Outside, the snow began to fall. --- Ruby Sanders isn't just a woman with a courtroom reputation-she's a name carved in grief, ambition, and secrets.
