Alone, disoriented, and desperate for answers, Elara is forced to rely on the one being who might offer them: Kael, a mysterious and unsettling Nai'thari who claims to disagree with his kind's conquest of Earth. But his icy exterior hides a deeper struggle-one that might make him the most dangerous person she's ever met.

Though their worlds are worlds apart, a reluctant alliance forms between Elara and Kael as they search for a way to fight back against the Dominion. But the more they work together, the more Elara finds herself drawn to the alien who both terrifies and fascinates her.
