The city never slept.
It shimmered under a thousand lights - glass towers, neon signs, the hum of late-night traffic echoing like a restless heartbeat. Somewhere between all that motion, two people moved through its noise, unaware of the way their paths were about to cross - or maybe, fated to collide.

Michael Kaiser lived in the city's shadows, where deals were made with whispers and blood. To the world, he was elegance - a man in a tailored suit, owner of a glittering nightclub that lured in the city's elite. Beneath that charm, he carried something darker. The kind of danger that didn't need to be announced - it could be felt in the air when he walked by.

Alexis Ness lived in the light, or at least pretended to. A university student with a soft voice, a sharp mind, and a camera always slung around his neck. He captured moments - fleeting expressions, fragments of beauty, the things people missed. But lately, his lens lingered too long on one person.

It began with a photograph.
A man leaving a café. The late sunlight caught on his hair, gold against the dull gray of the city. His eyes - cold, but tired - had looked back only once.

Ness didn't know why he took that picture. Or why he printed it. Or why he started looking for that man again.

And Kaiser - he didn't yet know someone was already watching.

Because sometimes, obsession begins quietly.
Like a picture - a single, stolen frame - before the whole film starts to burn.

[ONC2024] Everyone can read minds except for Ethan Langdon. And Ethan Langdon has the dumbest (and cutest!) thoughts Lukas Hoffmann has ever heard. ____ Part one complete. Part two updating every Friday until completion (but already fully complete on my Kofi!) ____ Lukas Hoffman's life in Brambleburg is about as boring as you'd expect for a town where everyone can read minds. He's used to his routine of dusting the LPs at the record store where he works and helping out his grandma around the house. Nothing in Brambleburg changes. No one in Brambleburg changes. Until Ethan Langdon stumbles in with the soggy remnants of a paper map, asking for the quickest route to Berlin. Ethan, it turns out, doesn't have telepathy, and as aggravatingly inane as his thoughts are, Lukas hasn't felt the excitement of meeting a stranger since.... well, ever. And the more Lukas listens, the more he starts enjoying Ethan's cute thoughts about life, the universe, and Lukas's dimples. ____ Might bring to mind: "Cherry Magic" but set in a fictive European town where everyone except the love interest can read minds. ____ Written for the Open Novella Contest 2024 using prompts 8, 75, 82, and 85. 8. "You don't heal alone"

35 parts Complete

Alexis Ness has always known his place - the shadow of genius, the loyal soldier, the one who follows. In Michael Kaiser's world, that loyalty is currency, and Ness spends it willingly. But as the spotlight intensifies and the stakes of Blue Lock rise, so does the cost of staying in Kaiser's orbit. Behind Kaiser's brilliance lies a storm of ambition, fear, and isolation. And behind Ness's unwavering smile is a boy who's forgotten where he ends and where Kaiser begins. When a fracture threatens the empire they've built on goals and control, both are forced to confront the truth: perfection doesn't protect you from pain, and you can't outrun your own ghosts forever. You Don't Heal Alone is a raw, intimate exploration of power, codependency, and the quiet, aching process of healing - not by standing alone, but by finally letting someone see you.
