In this book, everyone must learn how to cope with their past. No one is perfect, and that's okay. However, a boy, but now an adult, named Aaron Peterson, struggles to cope throughout the story. His sister, Mya Peterson, on the other hand, has already coped with her trauma. Their therapist and "sister", Amelia Ali Abu, tries to find strategies to help Aaron overcome his mental health. Over the course of years, Aaron's mental health decreases due to stressful flashbacks, to which causes him to crashout from time to time. After the incident he did to his sister a long time ago, they have their fair shares of arguing or getting physical; however, Amelia disagrees upon violence in her house. Will Aaron allow his traumatic childhood memories shape him, or will he overcome the harsh memories that repeat in his brain.
