Caroline sta per iniziare il suo primo anno ad hogwarts, sull'espresso verso la scuola conoscerà James e Sirius, e andrà subito d'accordo con Sirius ma non con James, a cui da l'appellativo di guastafeste.
Arrivata ad Hogwarts scoprirà di appartenere a due case differenti: corvonero e serpeverde e dovrà scegliere a quale appartenere. Durante l'anno scolastico sceglierà di frequentare entrambe le case non sapendo che decisione prendere e scoprirà i segreti delle due case, dei suoi abitanti e di come non tutti i serpeverde siano cattivi e spietati. Ma intanto, approfondirà la sua amicizia con i malandrini, mentre Albus silente continua a tenerla d'occhio.
