"When I wrote Not Yours to Keep, I really wanted it to feel honest.

Like... being young is actually confusing.
You're trying to figure yourself out through friendships, relationships, attention, heartbreak... even attraction.

And for me, Aly is a girl who slowly realizes that not everybody who wants her genuinely cares about her.

Some people just like the idea of her.
Some people want access to her.
And that changes the way she sees love completely.

So the story is really about me, us or Aly learning that growing up isn't just about finding people.

It's also about learning when to stop giving people pieces of yourself they were never meant to keep."
