A young inkling's life is flipped upside-down when a certain octoling pops up. More and more octolings are appearing on the surface, suddenly inserted into inkling society. The latter do not take kindly to this. Will the two thrive, or will an unequal and conformist society crush them?

The story takes place long ago and is about a scientist that has no other dream but to create life. After many failures, he is forced to seek help from hooded figures that appear one night. He succeeds, but gets trapped in deal he can't escape from. A few months later, a shadow starts terrorizing the land of Inkopolis. It strikes at night, it's blade cutting down everyone that gets in it's way. One night, four travelers gather to stop the shadow, and go out to fight it.
