The stranger at cafe Luna

The police lights painted the fog in flashes of red and blue. By the time they arrived, the pier was empty-no body, no footprints, just the locket and the smell of gunpowder in the air.

Emma sat wrapped in a blanket, numb. She told the officers everything she could, though it all sounded insane out loud: the fake date, the two men with the same story, the warning, the gunshot.

When they left, she couldn't stop staring at the locket.
