The kingdom of Reza, harbors a cursed creature known only as Shahkhur; some say he prowls as a monstrous bear, others as a ferocious tiger, tearing apart any soul unlucky enough to cross his path. The truth of his form remains unknown, as no one has lived to tell the tale. He is well known as the "king of animals," a creature of terror whose very name fuels dark folklore and stories of warning. They fear the legend that he may one day break the curse that shackled him to the forbidden forest, and he would prowl the strengths of Reza painting it with blood. There is only one person who knew what Shahkhur looks like; a young woman named Leila.

A dark curse, known only as the Weeping Ash, devours Upper Egypt from the inside out. The Pharaoh's Medjay investigators are certain: only forbidden dark magic could be responsible. To find the source, they need an expert. They need Neith, a young physician from the north, renowned for her knowledge of rare ailments. What they don't know is that Neith's genius is a gift from her true master: Set, the God of Chaos and Storms. She is his last practicing priestess, her power drawn from the very dark magic the Pharaoh has outlawed. Now, Neith must walk a razor's edge. She must solve the mystery of the Weeping Ash while hiding her identity from her new companions-especially the sharp-eyed Captain Heru, who serves the cult of Horus and despises all she represents. But the curse is more than a plague; it is a piece of divine chaos, a weapon that bears the fingerprints of her own merciless god. As her alliances with the pragmatic scout Khensu and the tormented Heru deepen into dangerous attraction, Neith is torn between her loyalty to the master who forged her and the humanity she discovers in their company. To save Egypt, she might have to betray the god she loves, and choose between the path of Loyalty to the man who represents order, or embrace the Chaos that is her destiny. ---
