A plague has wiped out most of humanity. The survivors are few, and they are mostly gathered in various cities all over the world. However, it has been long enough since the plague that technology has continue on like it was before the plague, but on a much smaller scale. Val lives on an island with a huge city, called Arch. Arch is a perfect city that no one in their right mind would ever want to leave, but Val lives outside Arch in the land called Ater with her tribe.
