Major Matt Walker has seen death in every form, survived impossible missions, and earned a reputation for being unshakable. When he's assigned to lead Operation Nightfall, a covert mission to dismantle an illegal weapons network, he expects danger, deception, and sacrifice. What he doesn't expect is her.

Roselyn Moore is unlike anyone Matt has ever met. Disciplined, sharp, and eerily calm under fire. But there's something beneath her surface, something that makes her too perfect. The truth, locked deep within classified files, is that Roselyn isn't human at all. She's the first successful prototype born from a secret military-biotech program, the masterpiece of Novumorphic Labs.

As the mission unfolds, Matt begins to see cracks in the steel façade. Roselyn laughs. She hesitates. She dreams. And against every instinct, he finds himself drawn to her humanity, the very thing she was never supposed to have. But the closer he gets to her, the more he realizes the experiment didn't end with her creation. There are other secrets buried beneath the surface, and the closer Matt comes to the truth, the more he's forced to question everything he's ever fought for.

As buried, twisted truths begin to surface, Matt must choose between the mission that defines him and the conscience that's waking inside him.

Because the line between flesh and code is thinner than anyone imagined.

And once you teach a creation how to feel, you can no longer control what, or who, she loves.

*COMPLETED* When Rosie turned thirty-one with nothing to show for it, she panicked. Suddenly it felt like her biological clock was ticking, but she didn't want to settle for a man for the sake of having a child. So, after falling down a rabbit hole of research online, she decided to find herself a sperm donor. A strangely vague profile ends up catching her interest. The only real thing she learned about him was that his name was Levi and he was in the military. One invasive and intimate procedure later, Lily was conceived. It was a few months after her daughter was born, when Rosie should have been fretting about the price of nappies and lack of sleep, her worries were overshadowed by an event she never, ever could have predicted: a zombie outbreak. Rosie locked herself away in Finches tower block, stocked up on supplies from abandoned neighbouring flats, and lived every day with the sole purpose of keeping her daughter alive. Doing so meant avoiding the dead as well as the living. She'd been doing a decent job of it so far. Until a man breaks into the tower block, but it wasn't just any man. It was Levi, Lily's literal sperm donor. And he was there to save them. -- When a bioweapon was released on UK soil, Staff Sergeant Levi James Brackley was sent from pillar to post in an attempt to help neutralise and contain. Once it was clear neither was possible the last resort was to form a safe zone on the Isle of Wight. Levi decided to stay behind. The last evac chopper left without him on board. He knew it was a shot in the dark, that they were probably dead already, but he had to try. Without knowing it, they'd become a beacon of light during the darkest time of his life. Now it was his turn to be there's.

Lexi leaned forward, intrigued. "And what? We'd build an army of primal, mindless predators?" Luke smirked. "Not mindless. Just... reprogrammed. Imagine a world where behavior is coded like software. Disease as design." The fire pit cracked. Some students muttered how creepy it was. Lexi only smiled wider. "Sure. Or we could just bring back dinosaurs." That got laughs. A few clinked bottles. "I mean, honestly?" she went on, light but sharp. "I'd rather be chased by a raptor than a dead guy foaming at the mouth. At least the raptor's not... rotting." Luke's gaze had settled on her-curious, amused, impressed. "Our whole generation grew up dreaming of that," she said, lifting her chin. "Jurassic World. How to Train Your Dragon. Eragon. Reign of Fire-we rooted for the monsters." Luke's grin turned thoughtful. "Then maybe we should bring them back." --- SIX YEARS LATER --- Luke Stewart is no longer just a brilliant geneticist-he's the man who hatched the world's first living velociraptor. What started as a late-night obsession became a scientific miracle. But he didn't stop at resurrection. He spliced ancient DNA with modern innovation and created something new. Creatures that resemble dragons more than dinosaurs. When BioGen-Med Inc. learned of Luke's work, his private project became a high-security black op. Officially, the remote island lab was to be a prototype theme park. Unofficially, it was breeding grounds for bioweapons-living assets designed to kill. Now the island has gone dark. General Elijah Halvorsen knows the truth. To fix what's broken, he sends Lexi Russo-a 23-year-old soldier with medical brilliance and razor instincts. She's not just his best-she's like a daughter. And she's the only one who knows what's really waiting out there. Because the park was never meant to open. And some monsters were never meant to live.

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)

There are more threats out here than we anticipated, and they're all after you-" Lukas' voice erupted into static and chunks... I glared at the man in all black as the light continued to beam and blind me. Without my glasses it was actually painful. And then there was silence.
