In this world, vampires rule. Humans are just like pets to them, perhaps even lesser due to the aspect of them having a similar form to the vampires, causing the vampires to feel rather contemptuous. They see humans as weaklings; magic-less, wingless, powerless creatures. What other purpose did they serve other than as pets?

Jade is one of these unfortunate pets. He was born to a vampire father and a human mother. A mutation caused his wings to be white rather than black; vampire wings are supposed to be black. His stepmother, his father's wife, was not pleased about this at all. She had the human killed and tried to kill him too, but his father attempted to keep him alive, saying that such a rare hybrid was almost non-existent in the market. He'd fetch a good price once he was old enough. So, he was sold instantly the moment he turned 6. A decade and a half later, he ended up in a pet shop, mute, traumatised, and resigned to his fate.

Adrien needs a pet. He had recently become the Duke after doing dirty work for the King for decades. He didn't expect the promotion, to be honest. He wanted to live a chill life, not have any public appearances... All that boring stuff. He was rather upset that he had to appear publicly for the first few months of gaining his title; it was important to appear as strong as possible. So, when he heard about a shop that had gotten its hands on a human-vampire hybrid, he jumped at the chance. One could only imagine his elation when he realised that was also the shop that had been embezzling money; soemthing he had to check out on his own. Visiting was killing two birds with one stone, he believed.

Unfortunately, Jade had already been reserved by the Research Department for research in three months' time. Adrien was alright with that; he only needed Jade for three months anyway. What sort of relationship could these two form?
