can you tell me what day it is? it's wednesday- no thursday. it's thursday, and it's septemeber... septemeber... give me a second. she never writes anything down. she doesn't use her phone, or her laptop. or that yellow legal pad that christina used. she just stares at me, wide blue eyes. practiced smile. something vageuly reassuring but empty. you're doing great. she says this a lot. when i'm using the back of my thumb to hatefully will away the tears before they can spill over. when i'm looking out the windows, or at the photographs on the wall above her head. she says it the most when i give her a correct answer. you're doing great, is a metaphorical gold star in this room.

~Rosalinda~ "Just leave me alone!" I said, sprinting through the corridors, frantically trying to hold up my long dress to keep from falling over. "Rose, wait!" she called, running after me. I ran as fast as I could up the stairs and into my room. I slammed the heavy oak door behind me and slid the thick, silver bolt across it. Breathing heavily, I leaned against the door and tried desperately to calm down. Why did it have to be my birthday, of all times, to be told such awful, shocking news? It wasn't fair. It's my sixteenth birthday, for Heavens' sake! This is meant to be a happy day, a day of celebration! Why did my mother choose to tell me today, when she could have waited until at least tomorrow! ~Felix~ "I want us to go away for a week, together, to get to know eachother. That way, we can decide truly whether or not we like eachother - without the pressure of betrothal." That sounded fair enough - I wasn't sure whether or not I'd be allowed to go, but I was definitely excited. A whole week, with her! And no-one else; just us two, alone. It shouldn't be too difficult to get her to fall in love with me. These two people are connected by a secret that's been kept from them their whole lives. It turned their lives upside down when they found out; for one, in a good way, but for the other, in a not-so-good way. Are they going to be able to figure it out before they're stuck with something they don't want but can't get rid of?
