Dean is hunting a djinn that attacks while people are sleeping. The djinn is a rapist that takes image of the victims loved ones.

Dean doesn't tell Sam that they're working a case when he offers to spend the weekend at an old cabin to go "fishing."

The djinn has only attacked female victims so far, so Dean had no reason to believe it was going to attack Sam.
