I wrote this poem during a very difficult time in my life when I moved to the United States from South Korea in 2022. I left my home, friends, family, and the job I loved as a SPED teacher due to being chronically ill and an autoimmune disorder. In my deep depression, suicidal ideation, and frustrations, I wrote this poem to help me deal with the culture shock and the difficult transition in my life that I struggle to fit in and interact with others in the USA. Throughout my life I've struggled in surviving through many hardships from severe abuse and domestic violence, and my dwindling health being disabled that it has become severe. I have almost been killed a few times by people my life I loved and trusted. Hope has helped me get through everything but many times I have felt hopeless. Hope gives us the courage to face our struggles. Hope is what help us keep going down the rough path. Hope is a powerful thing. "The Others see our hope as a weakness. As a delusion. But they're wrong. It's our hope that lets us survive. That lets us bend, but remain unbroken. It's our hope that willl let us win one day. It's our hope that makes us human." Cassiopeia Sullivan (The Fifth Wave film)
