Hongjoong is pretty open about his fucked up mentality. So when he started dating Seonghwa, he said that he'll always be honest. But that's exactly what Seonghwa started to fear.

Seonghwa would clean up after his crimes every time only to meet with his brutal honesty.

All the while also harbouring certain romantic feelings towards one another which also get addressed and resolved all through the novel.
