Cheng Xiaoshi had thankfully shifted back to his angel form by the time he collapsed so he didn't look like some homeless man lying in the middle of the streets. Though, the thought didn't comfort him.
Everything hurt.
He tried to curl into himself, to swaddle himself warm like a baby to make the ache more bearable. But his limbs were like dead weight, body too spent. All he could do was lie there, chest rising and falling in sharp, shallow breaths, the sound of his own breathing the only thing keeping him company.
But it wasn't enough. It was never enough for Cheng Xiaoshi.
He missed Time Photo Studio. He missed taking clients' orders and diving with the clap of a hand and celebrating with boba afterward. He missed the three of them, together. And frankly, he hated being alone more than anything else in this fucking world.
His vision blurred in and out as a silhouette of blinding white came into view, staring down at him. Cheng Xiaoshi thought it was the sun at first.
But Lu Guang's voice rang in and out of his ears. "...Killing yourself."
What was he saying?
The last words he heard before passing out came from Lu Guang's mouth, as he moved too close and placed his palm over his eyes to shield him from the blinding sun.
"Too nice."
