Damien had perfected the art of blending in. For centuries, Halloween was his easiest night-a chaotic symphony of masks and manufactured fear, where his actual inhumanity was merely another clever costume. He attended the exclusive city party not for amusement, but for observation, cloaked in an impeccable, anachronistic suit that made him look less like a monster and more like a dangerous, old-world aristocrat. His existence was one of profound, cold solitude, and he preferred it that way. Then, he saw Aria. She was the antithesis of everything dark and deliberate in his life-radiant even amidst the strobe lights and costumed frenzy, dressed in a playful, almost innocent, interpretation of a mythological creature. When their eyes met across the crowded floor, Damien's control, usually absolute, flickered. He approached her, drawn by a hunger far more complicated than the simple thirst he normally quenched. Aria, charmed by the enigmatic man whose eyes seemed to hold centuries of untold stories, felt a magnetic pull. His presence was compelling, almost overwhelming, but in the intoxicating atmosphere of the masquerade, she dismissed the chill radiating from him and the unnerving intensity of his gaze as performance. Their meeting felt like destiny disguised as coincidence. Under the guise of anonymity, a dangerous connection sparked-the vampire falling for the very vitality he craves, and the human falling for a beautiful lie. Neither of them knew that when the midnight chimes rang and the masks came off, the true horror of their impossible attraction would only just begin.

By a chance encounter, Lucien meets his true love, his fated. In his world, vampires and humans reside together mostly without conflict. There is a mutual understanding. Vampires need blood and humans supply it willingly in trade. Throw into the mix, Jocelyn, a sweet-smelling girl with a personality and attitude that blazes just as red as her hair. Jocelyn is visiting from a land unsettled, as of yet, by vampires where humans are still the hunters. She has only ever known disdain for Lucien's kind. Can Lucien change Jocelyn's mind before time runs out? Excerpt..... I stood up, leaned across the table, on my palms, smiled cooly, and said, "I'm not allowed to call you dinner." Her eyes widened, and she dropped her glass. The glass clanked against her dinner plate and crumbled. She immediately looked down at it and frantically started picking up the pieces. "Leave it for a servant," I sniped at her. Reginald, our head waiter, promptly appeared at her side and started picking up shards. Our servants were specially trained on how to clean up messes without having bloody accidents. She looked up at me with a renewed sense of hostility. "I will do it myself!" Reginald didn't move. He is trained to insist. "Please, Miss?" he asked quietly. He took hold of the piece of glass in her hand and pulled. She squeaked in pain and held her hand up in front of her face. It was in plain view so that everyone could see. Her finger had been sliced open. The sweet smell got so strong that it was almost irresistible. Prompt number: 11. Vampires are bound by an ancient destiny: their soulmate is always human, and this bond is governed by three rules. The smell of their soulmate's blood is irresistible, its taste is sweeter than anything else, and if the love is unrequited, it can be fatal. Fearing this inevitable bond, most vampires try to avoid it. But what happens when one of them discovers that their soulmate is a human who not only rejects them but loathes them?
