What if HYDRA did more while hidden within SHIELD? What if, with new technology, they continued to want more? To always take it one step further? What if HYDRA had another version of the Winter Solider hidden so well within SHIELD, HYDRA themselves didn't know the programming worked? If HYDRA didn't know, how could the Soldier herself know?

Years after the fall and rebuilding of SHIELD, Fury starts to uncover just how deep HYDRA's teeth sunk into SHIELD. Some of them include old founders, great-nieces of old founders, and old enemies. As agents of the rebuild SHIELD start to mysteriously vanish, Fury knows that they need to get to the bottom of this, fast.

Bucky Barnes starts to remember his life before he became the Winter Soldier. After the events of Washington, he had wanted to run away and hide. He knew people would come looking for him, especially Hydra and the Avengers. Hidden away in a remote town, on the outskirts of Maine, Bucky tries to live a simple life without drawing attention to himself. Little does he know, he had been followed. ***** Alexandria (Lexi) Adams, was one of the best shadow agents of SHIELD. She was one that Fury trusted with everything, including her judgement. Fury knew that having the Winter Soldier on their side, would be beneficial, not to mention, it would stop Rogers from turning down missions he was needed on. Lexi follows Barnes from a distance, helping to set him up with a home and job, without him knowing it was her. She had moved in to the apartment across from him, playing the friendly neighbour, which was a feat in itself. Lexi was never considered a friendly type of person. It was her mission, to help keep him safe, recover his past, and obtain any Hydra information. She makes sure to bump into him, while shopping for groceries, introducing herself, but she finds he's very closed off and guarded. Can she get through to him, or will he up and run again? When Hydra operatives come crashing through their complex, Lexi must make the choice, to stand and fight, or run. Will the two work together? THIS BOOK IS BASED OF THE CAPTAIN AMERICA AND AVENGERS MOVIES. I DO NOT OWN ANY (some unimportant characters I made up) OF THESE CHARACTERS. THEY BELONG TO MARVEL STUDIOS. (I also don't own the cover but don't know who to credit on it.) (This book takes place after Captain America the Civil War. Tony and Steve have "forgiven each other". The Avengers as a whole were forced to retire and start normal lives.)

Hydra had offered to bring her back safely as long as he agreed to the research for a year's time. He had dug further before accepting and saw the beginnings of discovering the nature of inhumans. In one perspective, if he volunteered himself, no one else had to get hurt and she would be home safe and sound.
