A sneak peak on what's inside for u decide if u wish to read this story Kael's body and soul are unraveling, and the truth behind it begins with a memory that is not his - but Zephyr Ashford's. Zephyr remembers the moment the Demon King tore open space and dragged him away. He had assumed it was an attack, a kidnapping. But the Demon King's expression had been desperate, his whisper urgent: "He's waking up. You're the only one he'll trust." The Demon King didn't take Zephyr to harm him. He took him because Kael was in danger - not from enemies, but from himself. Kael's soul had been fracturing for years, and if it shattered completely, the Throne Without a Name - the immortal will of the First Demon King - would awaken inside him and consume him entirely. And now, the signs were unmistakable. Kael's hands shook violently. His eyes glowed even in complete darkness. His shadow moved independently, watching him from the walls. Worst of all, Kael began hearing voices - ancient, commanding voices from the throne buried inside his soul: "Claim what was promised." "Burn the chains of both light and dark." "Only you." Zephyr realized the truth too late. The ruin they had been hiding in wasn't a refuge at all - it was the Throne's Anchor Point, the birthplace of the Demon King's coronation and the center of the ritual that had split Kael's soul at birth. The place was pulling Kael in... and the throne was waking through him. When Kael collapsed, the ground split open. Dark, ancient energy ripped from his back, forming wings of obsidian light. Silver streaks ignited in his hair; starlight and shadow fought across his skin as blackened blood steamed from his veins. Kael's voice broke, layered with something no longer human: "He's not waking up... he's already here." And somewhere deep within Kael's screams, Zephyr Ashford heard it - the Throne laughing. The true enemy was not outside. It was inside Kael, rising.

Jordan Haverford has three names and a target on his head. Suffering from a dead Angel's torture, split between crime and magic, and faced with his worst job yet, the last thing he needs is a blood debt. - The light season has arrived in Nictaven, and with it the city of Shadow's Reach is rebuilding after the ravages of the past season. But the threat of war hangs heavy over the new peace as the High Lord Harkenn recovers from an assassination attempt, and it doesn't look as though the Angels are finished. Despite the tense political atmosphere, Jordan's time with the assassins' guild has only increased, and creeping ever closer is the job its leader has forced on him, the one thing he vowed he'd never do - murder. Add to that the threat of retribution for the Angel he helped kill - and who left him with scars he's not sure he will ever recover from - and the fact that he can't seem to get along with his sister Grace anymore no matter how hard he tries, the light season has not brought him the salvation he had hoped. It's about to get a whole lot worse. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED © S E Harrison/giveitameaning 2022 Cover Photo by Duncan Sanchez on Unsplash
