Percy finds out about Nico's crush earlier than planned. And it's on neither of their terms. Until Percy gives him some good advice. Advice Nico takes to heart. But a demigod's life is never easy, and with a new prophecy and a new quest even darker forces are looming over the horizon, threatening to destroy the sunshine that Nico and another half-blood we all thought was gone have finally found. Placed during very beginning of Blood of Olympus/ between House of Hades and Blood of Olympus at the beginning. Then it switches to the end of Blood of Olympus. This is a solangelo story line. If you have not read Blood of Olympus, or do not ship solangelo, then I kindly ask you to reconsider your life choices. And then go do those things. He had allowed his infatuation with Percy to rule his life, his decisions, for far to many years. His wings had grown heavy, and he'd drowned. Icarus had made a mistake. He strayed too far, entranced by the kindness of the light. The dark wouldn't be as welcoming, ushering you in with no hesitancy and crossed arms. That didn't work out so well for Icarus. So, Nico would allow this filter, this light, to cover him, shroud him in kindness, and possibility, and warmth. But he would not cross further.
