He doesn't take it seriously at first, but he eventually learns to see the value in doing good, leaving him with a choice between serving himself, or serving others.

Ahem, I didn't plan on becoming a hero. I planned on paying rent.
Long story short, Now I'm stuck in the Superhero Dispatch Network's phoeix program, which is a rehab program consisting of a team of reformed villains, a cycle of dispatchers, and expectations I'm not sure I can meet without screwing up in a spectacularly infamous fashion.
Hah! Yeah, I said it.

Jason Berlanti, an eminent 26-year old dentist with a rapidly upcoming firm couldn't have had a more promising or prospective future until he was called into the family's business.
