Beneath layers of thick, insignificant letters and trade agreements, his hand closed on a sealed letter stamped with the blood-red wax of the crest of Autumn. His pulse spikes, pounding hard enough to make his vision blur momentarily. He knew before he broke the seal that whatever was inside was meant for anyone besides him. And still, his scarred fingers slid underneath the wax and tore it open.

Eris.

Mate.

Bond.

The words carved into Azriel like a blade. His knees nearly buckled, and for a heartbeat, he told himself this had to be a lie, some elaborate version of a cruel joke. But the paragraph dripped with truth.

Eris's truth.

And Rhysand's silence.

(A/N: Yes I'm the original author from AO3. My friend convinced me to post on here too. Also I do love Wattpads comment system. Its so peak at times ;))

"You think I give a shit about everyone else in Prythian if it's your life on the line?" Azriel snapped. Eclipse's eyes watered and she looked away in frustration. Azriel reached forward and grabbed her chin forcing her to look at him. Eclipse's breath caught in her throat at the intensity of his stare. "If it's you or Prythian, I will light the fucking fires myself and burn it all to the ground." "Az-" she breathed softly staring into his hazel eyes. "No. I waited 500 years for this, for you, and if you think that I will ever be okay with spending one Cauldron damned second of this life without you from this point forward, then you are sorely mistaken." He stared deeply into her eyes. "If you.. Mother.... If you die Eclipse there's no fucking point to anything. Mate or not you are the light of my life. Nothing makes sense without you, it's all just blood and shadow without you and I can't, I won't go back to that. So if you go, then I'm following right behind." What if, hear me out, but what if Rhysand's sister hadn't been the youngest of his blood relations. What if, before her death she had been married off to the heir to the Day Court? What if they had a daughter? Born somewhere in between the day and night, a bridge between the courts. Powers from both. An affinity to control the light and dark, an intuition so keen she had never been wrong a day in her life, an affinity for magic and spells so strong she could rival her father, known by many names. The Warrior Princess, the Candle in the Dark, Daydreamer, Eclipse; Spell Weaver.

Gwyneth had always felt connected to her faith, a higher power presiding over her. That faith had shaken that devastating day those years ago, the day that went on to haunt her every nightmare for years to come. She's still trying to come back from it, to not only restore her faith in life and love, but her faith in herself. The sanctity of her spirit- she prayed for resolve. Every punch was a prayer. Every mile was a hymn. Until her knuckles bled and her knees gave. Azriel had been surrounded by darkness his whole life, a poison on his world, on his being. He exercised restraint in his every waking moment, banishing that darkness within himself. Some guessed of the strain it put on him, but no one knew the extent of it, how deep his scars ran. It was better this way, he was sure. He had always thought that if there were a higher power- which he wholly doubted- such deities must loathe him to have burdened him such darkness. He hadn't much faith in the gods anyway, much less faith that he could sway their opinion on him. But Gwyneth and Azriel did have one thing in common: the quiet fight within themselves. They only knew one way: to go about it alone, couldn't fathom letting another in. But there's a magic in finding someone who is your equal but opposite, something transforming. And frankly, Gwyneth and Azriel could both use a little magic. All characters owned by SJM in the ACOTAR series. Story takes place after the events of ACOSF. Aligns with the events in my other fic: A Storm of Flames and Deceit. I haven't finished Crescent City, so this story takes place outside of the events of those books as well. They were never supposed to work. The spymaster of Night. The heir who swore he'd never be like his father. The High Lady of Autumn. Bound by a rare mating bond, entangled in politics, duty, and desire. Together, they were something sacred. Something secret. Until unrest in the Autumn Court begins to rot everything they've built. Whispers become threats. Loyalty fractures. And love-real, messy, consuming love-might not be enough to hold them together. A story of power, sacrifice, and the kind of love that refuses to be quiet. Of three souls fighting not just for a court but for each other.
