If someone told me I'd end up living with Heaven, I'd say they needed therapy.

He's loud, messy, and allergic to responsibilities. I, on the other hand, enjoy peace, quiet, and not losing brain cells every five minutes.

But apparently, the universe has jokes. His parents thought the best way to keep him out of trouble was to let me move in.

Now I wake up to his loud music, trip over his sneakers in the hallway, and pretend my heart doesn't skip when he smiles like he knows exactly what he's doing.

It's not a love story.
It's a survival story.

At least... that's what I keep telling myself.

Moving across the ocean at sixteen wasn't part of the plan. New school, stupid uniforms, and helping at her dad's crappy gas station wasn't either. But here she is-refilling refrigerators at midnight, carrying boxes with broken tape, and counting down the days until she can leave. Two years later, Maria's still stuck. Still bitter. Still haunted by the life she didn't choose. And then he shows up- In a loud, beat-up car. With the kind of attitude that sets her teeth on edge. She doesn't like him. Doesn't want to. But maybe he's just as messed up as she is. Maybe he sees her darkness and doesn't flinch. And maybe... just maybe... gasoline burns better with a match.
