Injured in an incident at a London Underground station, Ciara O'Sullivan no longer speaks.
Her father is transfered home to the United States where Ciara's recovery continued.
Starting her 3rd year at university, she is in her mind invisible to everyone apart from snide comments from the most popular set.
Rupert Holmes, star receiver for the university football team, dreams of the draft and the NFL. He spent the last year more occupied with girls than his studies, collecting phone numbers like some people collect stamps.
His dreams are in danger of being derailed, on the verge of being kicked out of Springhill.
Shaken to his core he starts to turn his studies around. His efforts are noticed by his Course Tutor, who offers the brightest peer tutor to help..
For two years their paths never crossed, now they are in each other's orbit. From studying to a fledgling friendship, Rupert starts to see a side of Ciara that few at Springhill have.
As Ciara helps save Rupert from his academic woes, along the way he helps heal the scars of her past.
