While testing new medicines and drugs on mobs, the zombies in particular start to develop dangerous mutations, strengthening them and increasing their desire for killing and destruction. When they break loose and start to rapidly spread their disease to humans, the world quickly delves into an apocalypse.
However, another issue arises, and it might just be worse than the zombies themselves. Respawn mechanics, potions of healing, totems of undying, and command blocks - items that made dying in the world of Minecraft merely an inconvenience, have shrunk in quantity, and massively too. Suddenly, surviving is twice as hard of a challenge, and now, more and more fatalities are starting to become permanent.
Amidst all of this, players JJ and Mikey decide to face this threat the same way they always have, despite the more apparent danger. But when JJ's leadership qualities result in a a tattered group of survivors looking up to him; mostly consisting of people he's known before and failed to lead in the past, unspoken tension, stress, and buried trauma is quick to rise, threatening the success of him and the group's mission to find the last potion of healing in the world, and the recipe that goes along with it - the only chance at restoring the world to what it used to be.
