If you've encountered J-Horror before, you may be familiar with the psychological dread of the Yūrei (ghosts). The Yōkai are different. They aren't sad spirits or clever tricksters; they are powerful, often animalistic forces of nature-think terrifying ogres, cunning mountain demons, and deadly water imps.

These stories focus on The Hunt. Since Yōkai are physical entities, defeating them requires confrontation, strategy, and sheer brutality. You won't find slow, creeping dread here as much as you'll find the intense, evocative horror of a direct fight for survival.
