She survives and to protect the family, her attempted murderer, a very openly psychopath man, marries her to prevent her from being able to talk to the police. The book, when completed will follow how she adapts to this marriage and how they come to an agreement as she works through her trauma from her own childhood being raised by a psychopathic father while being married to an unrepentant killer. And while her husband realizes that his form of control isn't the ONLY way of control and that sometimes, giving up control can be a good thing and sometimes being unable to feel most emotions doesn't mean that they still can't be there in some form.
