Madison Knox, known more particularly as Maddie, is broken. Not in a fragile kind of way, but in a shattered mirror with sharp edges kind of way. She wasn't born that way, but she has stayed that way. Her father, Dane Knox, is the worst man alive. She is his only daughter. She doesn't think of him as a dad anymore. After dealing with his terrible abuse all those years... he became known as the monster, and she is... the product of him.

Jace Monroe is mean. He is cruel and he terrorizes people for fun. But when he walks through his home all by himself, you won't think of him that way. His dad is rich, his mom is a gold digger, and his brother is a druggie. He's all alone.

When he meets Maddie, he instantly is attracted to her and that scares him shitless. He's so used to feeling hate, so he pushes her away. They hate each other. Their friends hang out and they are forced to spend time together. Eventually they realize they are the same.
