Every month, the Australian Writers' Centre releases a challenge: write a complete story in just 500 words, inspired by a unique set of prompts. Half a Thousand Words is my collection of those stories - written in quick bursts of inspiration, constraint, and caffeine.

Each piece began as a race against the clock but became something more: a glimpse into people caught mid-moment, emotions that flicker and fade, and the strange beauty of saying everything with almost nothing. These are the stories that surprised me, stayed with me, and proved that even in half a thousand words, a world can unfold.All Rights Reserved

30 Days, 30 Stories: A Writing Challenge by stvnlra

This is a 30 day writing challenge, a collection of short stories. I've always been a world class procrastinator. The goal of this challenge is to get me writing regularly and, hopefully, break me of the perfectionist thinking that often paralyses me. The Rules: 1. Write and publish 1 short story (flash fic, vignette) per day for 30 days. 2. Stories must be at least 100 words. 3. They can be of any genre or subject matter. Like a lot of writers I have notebooks lying around full of random story ideas. Most of my older ideas are for novels and screenplays. Been going thru my old ideas and picking out the ones I think lend themselves to the short story format. I'm also working on coming up with NEW ideas that I can use here. Never been good at using prompts, but this is a good opportunity to experiment with those. All the stories here are original works written specifically for this challenge. February Daily Writing Challenges 2015 by Vanilla_Fae

I really want to get into writing again as it is my passion but I'm mostly focused on Playwriting, what I decided to do was complete daily challenges (30 mins) and see what I can come up with! Hopefully inspiring my YA fiction characters I'm not saying 30 mins is going to produce great stuff BUT it will get me into the habit of displaying my writing (even if it's not the best) and hopefully inspire characters or stories I have jammed in my head! From the contest Write to Rank, a competition about action writing with challenges every week. This is my entry on the contest. Hope you enjoy it. Released : Part 1 -white belt : write a 100 words flash-fiction action about the realization of danger. The wordcount must be exactly 100 Part 2 -yellow belt : write a 500 words flash-fiction with the prompt "Dead or alive. You're coming with me." The wordcount max is 500 words Part 3 -orange belt : write an 800 words flash-fiction with dialogue between good and bad. The wordcount max is 800 words Part 4 -green belt : write a 1000-1500 words flash-fiction using the genres of action & thriller/horror. Must mostly contain active sentences and fast-paced. It has to be first person perspective. Part 5 -blue belt : write a 1000-1500 words flash-fiction using the theme "Ride or Die" with a third person perspective and the show not tell sentences. Part 6 -purple belt : write a 1000-1500 words action fantasy with a plot twist. Part 7 -brown belt : write a 2000-2500 words action + free theme and with active sentences. End with an insane cliffhanger. Part 8 -red belt : write a 3000-3500 words (continuation of the brown belt) + active sentences and fast-paced. Part 9 -black belt : write a 4000+ words to end the story of Part 7&8.

Over the Wall: A Collection of Short Stories (NaNoWriMo 2014) by emmernemmer

This year for NaNoWriMo, I am writing a short story anthology. It will feature thirty or so short stories (my hope is to write one per day to fulfill my 1,667 per day word requirement) about varying things. Each morning, I will randomly select a number between one and thirty and I will look at the corresponding list of first lines I will have. I will take that line and write a short story using it and then the next day I will do the process over again (some stories might relate to each other, some might not). Anyway I will edit the story for that day and post it here. It may not be posted exactly on the corresponding day, but in the end there will be thirty short stories. P.S. Although these are somewhat edited they are still rough drafts so please treat them as such.
