"You're late," Regina said the second I walked in. "You said three." "It's 3:02." I rolled my eyes and dropped into the chair across from her. "Wow. Two minutes. Should I apologize to your schedule or your ego?" She didn't even flinch. Just gave me that calculating smile that made me feel like I was already losing at some game I didn't know we were playing. "So," I said, leaning back, "fake boyfriend, huh?" "Relax," she said, stirring her drink like she was plotting a murder. "It's not that deep. You'll pretend to be obsessed with me, everyone will talk, and he will get jealous." "He?" I asked. "Derrick Walters," she said, rolling her eyes. "Quarterback. Ego the size of Texas." I pretended to think about it. "So basically, I'm just your accessory?" She smirked. "You'll survive." I leaned back farther, crossing my arms. "You're assuming I'll go along with this." "Oh, you will," she said, meeting my eyes. "Because everyone in this school will think you're the guy dating me. And I'm pretty sure even you like attention." And the worst part? She wasn't wrong. Regina George doesn't date losers. Especially not drummers who wear ripped jeans, sleep through first period, and think sarcasm counts as a personality. But when she transfers to Crossland High and needs a plan to make her ex, Derrick Walters, jealous, Rodrick Heffley is... available. Loud. Chaotic. Perfectly wrong for her. So they strike a deal: He gets attention. She gets revenge. No strings. No feelings. Just noise. Except Rodrick's brand of noise starts to sound a lot like heartbeat. And Regina, queen of control, untouchable, unshakable can't figure out why she's suddenly falling for the one person who was never supposed to matter.
