"First Glimpse" by rrypottah isn't some phony Hollywood fairy tale. It's about how you find the one person who doesn't make you want to throw up-and then you lose them. This is the fictional, ten-year mess of Timothée Chalamet and Maya Depp.
It starts in New York, which is mostly just a lot of noise and people pretending to be interesting. Timothée, a sensitive, too-smart kid from the neighborhood, and Maya, who was already dealing with the garbage of a famous last name, found each other on the Lower East Side. They were the only two kids who understood that everything felt phony, except for the quiet time they spent together. They had this connection-a first glimpse of someone real-before they even knew what the hell a connection was.
Then, inevitably, Maya's family moves. Just like that. The city swallows the good thing whole. They stop talking. They grow up into the exact people the world expects them to be: famous. Rich. Lonely.
Years later, they are both on the set of some big, self-important movie, cast as the main couple. They have to stare at each other, pretend to be in love, and it's all a big, rotten joke. Except when Timothée looks at Maya across the studio lights-a sudden, unscripted moment of eye contact-it's like being a kid again. You realize that the only genuine thing in your life just walked back in. The story's about whether they can stand to ruin their careers by actually being honest with each other!
