Alyssa Andrews is a junior at Yellowfield University who studies psychology. Her life mostly consists of going to classes, making straight As, and being the classic "good girl."

That is, until she makes the mistake of enrolling in two of Professor Caroline Wilson's classes.

Professor Wilson is cold, calculated, cruel, and doesn't believe in comfort. Not only does she fail students with the rigor of her courses, she breaks them down mentally, shaming them in public with methodical precision. She is a strictly scientific neuroscientist who clashes with Alyssa's purely emotional and warm demeanor. Dr. Wilson sees Alyssa's empathy as a weakness, and Alyssa sees Dr. Wilson's brutality as unforgivable.

Professor Wilson is forced to mentor her. Alyssa is forced to suffer through it.

Alyssa sees Dr. Wilson as the antithesis of everything she stands for.
